Perhaps I need to reassess canned sardines. They were always the emergency food for us growing in the Philippines. That being said, i still do eat them with rice.

In Mexico we mix in with white onion, lemon, diced tomatoes and eat them in a taco with a little bit of Mayo and sauce

I dice up tomatoes & onions, sprinkle salt & lots of lime juice mix it w your red sardine ( kinda like ceviche) ontop of fresh rice 🤤

Tinned fish and rice is the winner for me, it’s my struggle meal since I was a kid and now I just have it whenever I felt like it or when I’m broke 😂
