@nadirnahdi: Andalusian Lamb Shank || The Rise and Fall of Andalusia How has Europe forgotten 800 years of history? Like.. How does that happen? What does this selective historic amnesia tell us about European identity? Despite every attempt to erase this history, the legacy of Andalusia lives in the food, architecture, language and customs. It is Islamophobia awareness month this month, and I can’t help but reflect how this history is linked to today, and a broader disdain and fear of the other. Why the story of Andalusia is so poignant and powerful, is that it turns the idea of Europeaness on its head. North Africans, Persians, Arabis and Asians have always been in Europe and contributed to its very foundation. But then why won’t they teach us that? Perhaps in teaching it, it may foster a great more compassionate society aware of every communities contribution to a place we all deserve to call home. RECIPE 4 lamb shanks 8 pieces of garlic 4 Red onions quartered 4 cups balsamic vinegar 8 cups of stock 2 oranges Salt and pepper A pinch of Saffron Honey Cumin Ground Coriander Cinnamon sticks Ground Fennel Almonds Parsley #spain #comfortfood #andalusia #andalucia #foodhistory #food #alhambra

how has Spain "tried every attempt to erase this history"? Al-Andalus and its influeneces are heavily looked after and advertised

this is a romanticised view of Andalusia. in reality Andalusia had periods of intolerance where Castile appeared to be the most tolerant kingdom.

this is video is half right and half wrong, Al Andalus was good indeed but it wasnt an utopia and were religion privileges too.

Why bring „Europe“ into it? This is about Spain. None of the things mentioned matter in my life as a non Spaniard not living in Spain.
