I've collected thorns from this trees and I imagine they must have been useful as tools for precolonial indigenous people.

Had a black locust tree taken down, told the guys to be careful of thorns. Dude took about 15 minutes before he punctured his palm.

Stepped on a branch from one of those as a kid. The thorn went right through the bottom of my tennis shoe and into my foot.
