@ggconservation: I like to think Tonga & I have developed a special trust over the 7+ years I’ve been filming him. The more he ages the more he doesn’t like vehicles anywhere near him- he will move away, they seem make him nervous ( he is almost 20yrs old) Yet sometimes he will approach my little familiar car of his own accord. On this occasion he caught me a bit by surprise as my window was down. I stayed calm & slowly moved away from the window so as not to frighten him. There was absolutely no aggression in his body language, Tonga is a mellow old gentleman of a lion. We locked eyes and it was a very special moment. *I know some people will ask.. No- I have never attempted to touch Tonga in these situations out of pure respect for his personal space.. it would startle him as something unfamiliar & also betray his trust in me… not to mention be ridiculously stupid on my part to attempt to do that*
