I agree! I don’t love using the word “primitive.” But in cases where I would normally say “basal” I tend to say primitive because no one knows what basal means I don’t want to have to explain everything you just did everytime I say basal 😅

I used it once in a discussion with an anthropologist and she disabused me of that notion quite fast. Glad to have learned my lesson long time ago

Evolution has definitely added complexity to the whole system as time has marched on - as more and more groups of living things evolved - but within each group sometimes complexity is added, and sometimes lost! Also, it is hard to agree on how to define and measure complexity!
