@ollierose_: Parenting isn’t instant gratification and that’s why parents abuse. Abusing gets instant results in the worst way possible. Responsive parenting is teaching the why over time for them to grasp the concept fully. They’re doing things right because they’re learning why, not because they’re scared to be hit.

When my son was that age, I got on the floor with him during a melt down and taught him what he could throw and where he could throw it. For a couple of years he’d storm into his room and throw beanie babies at a specific spot on his wall.
