@foodmymuse: Rusty cast iron? Lets save it following these steps: Throwing it in the dishwasher, leaving it to soak etc are reasons why your cast iron can rust but it can be saved and also remember, the more you use it the better it gets seasoned too. •Brush off the rust with soap and a steel wool, if it’s REALLY rusty you can soak it in vinegar and water for 20-30 min and then brush it off. Seasoning will come off and thats ok cause we will be reseasoning it. •Dry it real well by placing in the stove for 3-4 min and then drying it with a towel. •Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. •Rub a thin layer of seasoning oil or vegetable. •Bake upside down with the sheet pan underneath at 450F for 60-90 min. •Bonus step (not needed but I find it seasons it better): Let it cool slightly, rub another thin layer of oil and place on the stove for 5 min on high. You are good to go. #castironpan #castirontips #castironseasoning #tipsandtricks #learnontiktok #lifehacks #CookingHacks

Not an expert, but I heard soap is terrible for a cast iron. I bought a chainlink scrubber to use

Modern soap is fine as long as you properly seasoned the pan. The polymerization of the oil is the key.
