I think people are thinking about carbon dioxide, which is heavier and sinks. Monoxide/dioxide, what’s an extra atom between friends 😁

Pretty much nailed it, conversely smoke detectors should be on the ceiling or as close to it as possible because smoke rises

I always thought they said 18 in from the ceiling was the ideal spot.

Yep I work for a commercial security / fire company and the majority of carbons we install are ceiling mounted. It passes fire code

True! CO has a molar mass of 28.0. Air has a molar mass of 28.8. CO is less dense (lighter) than air

Low or high. In my opinion the key is to have one and maintain it regularly.

I'm pretty sure you only want it low on 2nd floor, or if your furnace or water heater are in a basement. His set up seems legit.

they're recommended to be installed between 6" from the floor or ceiling. your application is fine however.

it’s not best to be high. it’s best to install a co detector to manufacturer specs

In such a small space it really doesn’t matter. Also they alarm at very low values

These people will really come for you for anything 😂. If you put your boots on left foot first they’d tell you it should be right foot first.

It actually mixes well what you don’t want is it within 15 feet of your stove or furnace because that will set off false alarms You want it in your sleeping area close to you.

the smoke detector carbon monoxide combos are much more sensitive to carbon monoxide then the ones that plug into your wall at low levels

This is where people get confused, the Carbon Monoxide should be installed high. It’s the LP detecter that should be mouthed low. I’ve been in the RV

The age old question- is one pound of air heavier than 1 pound of carbon monoxide? 😂

carbon monoxide is lighter than both oxygen and nitrogen molecules, So it seems like a good idea to have it on the ceiling.
