Those chimneys, that’s heat retention. Fireplaces work by heating the brick, and the brick heats the home. Not the fire.

I worked on a building where the brick chimney had a full twist in it. supposedly to help with the draft as smoke goes up in a spiral.

Normal work for the time As for the chimney as long as you don’t go over a 45 degree angle it will draw fine
