@builtbyaustin: Ford's 1958 272 Y- Block engine 1. Called a Y block because the engine block has deep side skirts making it a Y configuration vs the traditional V 2. 1st Ford mass produced overhead V8 3. The distributor is in the back 4. Distributor is mounted at an angle because it has an externally mounted oil pump 5. The exhaust manifold has a crossover tube running to the passenger side 6. Air gap manifold allows air to pass underneath Not using the engine for this conversion. Curious, what would you do with the engine? . . #fordtruck #ford #fordengine #yblock #yblockford #engine #truckguy #trucks #mechanic #conversion #austincoulson #teaching #projects #metal #metalwork

Unfortunately you probably won’t be able to give it away. That’s my experience.

Mokanik :
The 272 had bad oiling problems top side so they would drill/pipe the valve cover studs for oiling.

don't forget they were a poor engine. failed to send oil to the top half of the engine.

🤔 super rare motor, not sought after, rare components, seems like an early attempt at planned obsolescence component failure. Scrap iron.

IMHO Y blocks are the coolest looking engine, I’ve got a 64 highboy with a 292 in it (last year you could get that engine I believe)

I would use it to convert my '63 F-100 from the 223 I6 to a period correct V8.

Simply just save it. Put it in a sled and slip it under the bench until you have a need
