@lordrarerock: UNNATURAL POWER - “Dazed and Confused” - Led Zeppelin live at Madison Square Garden 1973. This clip is a small sliver from the ordinarily 30+ minute performances of the epic song from their debut album. The band would go on haunting improvisation tangents throughout this number, where the four musicians would listen to what each member was doing and take the music in any direction. Led Zeppelin were not a band to stand up on stage and play each song note for note from the studio recordings - they would stretch the sonic landscape and take the music to different realms every night, leaving audiences with unique experiences each time. This was the main facet that highlighted Zeppelins virtuosity and catapulted them to the biggest touring attraction/band that dominated the 70s. D&C, written by Jimmy Page and inspired by Jake Holmes, was recorded in October of 1968 at Olympic Studios in London and found its home on the self titled debut album released in 1969. Jimmy had this idea with the Yardbirds and was even recorded with them but he wanted to give it an updated treatment with his new band. Jimmy played his iconic dragon Telecaster for this studio recording along with the violin bow for the ominous toned down sections. The rip-roaring solo was inspired from Jimmy’s work on Yardbirds song “Think About It” which there are obvious influences.
