Why Did He Blackout?! ⬇️ This is a video of @fred_petat having the biggest freediving blackout I've ever seen 😲 In the leadup to this competition, Fred had been training hard for several months, preparing his mind and body for the stressful conditions of holding your breath underwater. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks before competition day he had to fly back to Europe for family reasons. That meant flying back halfway across the world the day before the competition, in order to be able to compete ✈️ Being heavily jetlagged, as well as a few competition nerves, does not make for optimal conditions to perform at an elite level in competition. Fred attempted a personal best underwater swim, but when the oxygen levels in his body became too low, his brain shut down and he blacked out underwater. The safety divers quickly intervened and pulled Fred's body to the surface to stop him from drowning. It was then a very scary period as the safety team and judges tried frantically to revive him and get him breathing again. It took about 20 seconds before Fred started breathing on his own and regained consciousness, and shortly after he made a full recovery 👌🏽 This is an important reminder that you should NEVER dive alone, and that no matter how hard we train and prepare, things don't always go to plan. 🧜🏻‍♂️ @fred_petat 📸 @saltymammals #freediverlife #freediving #competition #athletelife #unconscious #blackout #athlete #holdyourbreathe #diving #freedive #accident #sportsfails #breathe #areyouokay #neverdivealone #breathhold #sport #graphic #graphiccontent #aida #aidainternational #outcold #extremesports #imokay
