(Neumark-Sztainer et al., 2007) Here’s what I told him instead. Leave her weight and her body out of the conversation entirely. Focus on behaviors the whole family does together, regardless of anyone’s size: regular balanced meals, enough sleep, movement she actually enjoys. Ask about her mood and her energy, not her plate. If something feels physically off, that’s a conversation for her to have with her pediatrician, not one for the dinner table. The instinct to protect her health is the right one.
