I usually skip the draining part and just pop it out and back in don't spill out hardly anything just clean it up with a towel.

I always removed the wires from the element. OL (open) is bad.

Pro Tip 1: Open pressure relief valve after turning water off so tank will drain faster.

changed my water heater out this year. its in a bedroom closet. stupid drain was messed up and wouldn't open. Moved it full. Heavy heavy heavy. Ugg
