Liturgy and fellowship at Snt. Paraskevi Orthodox Monastery in Washington, TX. Snt. Paraskevi was born in the 2nd century in a small village near Rome in the 2nd century. At around 20 years old she was orphaned, and sold her inheritance to help the poor and support a community of Christian women. Snt. Paraskevi was arrested under Emperor Antoninus Pius for refusing to worship pagan idols. She survived extreme tortures, including beatings, being forced to wear a red-hot helmet, and being thrown into a cauldron of oil, tar and water. Tradition tells us that Snt. Paraskevi accidentally blinded the local rulers with the boiling mixture, then miraculously restored their sight through prayer, and converted them to Christianity. Snt. Paraskevi was later re-arrested under Emperor Marcus Aurelius and executed by beheading under governor Tarasius. Today Snt. Paraskevi serves the Orthodox Church as the Patron Saint for healing of eye diseases, blindness, as well as spiritual discernment. Her feast day is celebrated July 26th. Snt. Paraskevi serves as fitting Patron Saint for the Orthodox Monastery of nuns in Washington, Texas. Truly a blessing to have worshiped with their community this Sunday. #christiantiktok #orthodox #prayer #nun #monastery
