Stranger Things: The First Shadow was not on my list, my radar, my things to do, but ever since I’ve been raving about Paranormal Activity, people have been telling me to go see this since I’m apparently a fan of immersive theater. And my hot take is that it was a pretty thrilling ride. I have to give a lot of credit where credit is due. The groundbreaking special effects and mind-bending illusions were off the charts and while the story line was a bit shaky for me personally, it did keep me captivated the whole time. It doesn’t have the same jump scares that Paranormal has, it’s more of an intense vibe throughout, and they both have a lot of comedy dispersed throughout which is nice because it lets your guard down. And I have to give it up for the ending which was cuh-razy in terms of the design and sound, I can’t believe they pull that off every night, so big BRAVA to them, it’s no wonder the show won four Tony Awards in 2025. Kudos to the acting from these young talents as well as the veterans on stage. Instead, Henry was "flayed" and corrupted by the Mind Flayer's hive-mind particles after a mysterious 12-hour disappearance in Dimension X during a 1950s military experiment in Nevada. Rather than Vecna creating or controlling the Mind Flayer as previously implied in Season 4, the play establishes that the primordial entity from Dimension X has been puppeteering Henry all along. Ok if you didn’t realize by now, that was all taken from reddit, hahaha…considering I’ve never watched the series and that whole write-up went right over my head, but it sounds pretty cool, and that scene deserves a complicated mind-blowing mind fukc intro.
