Another bag packed. Another thing to explain. Another list of questions in my head. This time we’re getting some help because Riley is having a little difficulty getting started with solids. And honestly, it’s hard not to worry. Especially when you’ve already spent so much time wondering whether your baby is doing what they’re “supposed” to be doing. I’ve learned that motherhood comes with a lot more uncertainty than I ever expected. You think you’ll have a baby, they’ll reach their milestones, you’ll feed them, they’ll sleep eventually, and you’ll just… figure it out. But sometimes you need a little extra help. Sometimes something doesn’t happen quite when you expected it to. Sometimes you find yourself sitting in another appointment, listening carefully and wondering what the next step will be. And that’s okay. We’re not behind. We’re not failing. We’re just figuring out what Riley needs. His journey has already been a little different from the beginning, so I’ve had to learn to stop comparing his timeline to everyone else’s. We’re working on growth. We’re working on milestones. We’re learning about solids. We’re navigating sleep. We’re dealing with teething. And through all of it, I’m trying to remember that he’s not a checklist. He’s my little boy. He doesn’t need to hit every milestone on someone else’s schedule. He needs support, patience, encouragement and a mum who keeps showing up. So today we’re going to another appointment. I’ll ask my questions. I’ll listen. We’ll learn something new. And then we’ll come home and carry on being us. And somewhere in the middle of all these appointments, feeds, cuddles and slightly chaotic days, I’ve found something that makes motherhood feel a little less isolating. Other mums. Mums going through their own appointments. Mums worrying about feeding. Mums wondering about milestones. Mums having days where they feel completely confident, followed by days where they question everything. Seeing those little lights reminds me that there are so many of us figuring it out as we go. We don’t have to have all the answers today. We just have to take the next step. And today, for us, that’s another appointment. 💛 #newmom #momlife #motherhood #postpartum #momcommunity
