@floriangadsby: These are still very much a work in progress, disks that’ll eventually be wall pieces that are fired multiple times with new layers of iron ochre added each time. Initially, I simply glazed one of the forms and fired it as per normal, the feet of these are left intentionally very thick so they don’t warp during the firing, (I also spread some coarse alumina hydrate beneath them—think tiny ball bearings the vessel can move over as it fires). With the initial layer of glaze set the iron can be applied. It isn’t coated over too thickly or it will crack and fall off, especially on the vertical sides, whereas on top I can be more generous. The pot is then fired again, and maybe again, each time the surface becomes more interesting, the iron melts, bleeds together, pockets of glassy green erupt and mix with the metal and really, I have absolutely no idea how these will look once finally finished. The idea is that they’ll be hung up on a wall and really this initial batch is just a test run as I already have another direction, I want to take them in terms of shape.
