![Road trip memories? Few stretches of asphalt in Romania hit the senses quite like the Bicaz Gorges. In summer, the limestone walls rise almost vertically from a ribbon of road that twists through the Eastern Carpathians, while every bend seems painted in impossible shades of green. It is the kind of place that turns a simple drive into an expedition, where open windows fill with the scent of pine and cold mountain air. Carved over millennia by the Bicaz River, the gorges cut through massive limestone formations that reach heights of more than 300 meters in places. This dramatic passage links the regions of Moldova and Transylvania and forms part of the spectacular route toward the famous Red Lake. Geologists, hikers, climbers and photographers have long been drawn here, not only for the scenery but for the rare plants, hidden caves and sheer rock faces that make this corner of Romania feel unexpectedly wild. There is something humbling about moving through a landscape that existed long before roads, engines or maps. The cliffs stand like weathered sentinels, indifferent to our schedules, while the forest quietly reclaims every crack and ledge it can find.
