everything you said was 100% I live in a log cabin and I've quite often had to melt snow on the woodstove when the well ran dry. takes hours to end up with a tiny, dirty amount of water

when I was in scouts I was told snow is mostly air so not a good source of water. ice is the better option for water in winter conditions.

You could keep a container of snow in the cabin realistically and it would melt slowly for a few days. Again though, only realistic in an emergency
