Kayln :
I just don’t understand the thinking that managers have when making this request. If I wasn’t qualified enough for the job, why am I qualified to train for the job? 🤨

He was qualified for the role if he's doing the on boarding. I'd say his future is already limited with this company. Time to move on.

Thank you for that consideration but there is something that has kept me from advancing and I would hate to pass that on to a new leader.

How much is the raise for my new role as a trainer

Absolutely not - it’s the managers job not yours. Your career…not your company.

This is just another reason people aren’t loyal to companies

Is internal promotion worth the wait? Many people can gain a promotion by moving to another company faster than competing where they are

I’d say no. If you think I’m qualified enough to train the new employee, I’m qualified to do the job myself. He’s already done at that company.

Train the new guy and start looking. That’s what I did.

Play the game, and immediately start looking, and get out.

They have just told him he is never getting promoted and is likely getting fired soon enough. Not training will only accelerate his termination. Train and find an outside asap, ONLY alternative!

I think if they went outside the company for a new hire once they’ll do it again in a heartbeat

This company has no respect for his abilities, or for his dignity as a professional or even as a human being. Self-respect demands he refuses.

The opportunities are already cut off with that company. Train but move onto another company

I had to train my own manager. After 18 months I got snippy & asked “When is your training period over?” Our Boss heard me fired him the next day. 😳

It depends if I believe the new person is more qualified, and what they mean by “train”. But regardless of what I decide, I’m job searching.

I’d say “As I didn’t get the job, I dont have the skills necessary for the job. With that said, I don’t think I’m qualified enough to train the 1/2

It hurts his career to say yes too. He’ll spend his time and talent on the training but it won’t benefit him.

This happened to my husband, he trained the new guy. Then left 6 weeks later for a much better job and within 6 months they had downsized the new guy
