@sachistorymuseum: Replying to @auntiekaitlyn Susan discusses the I Street Bridge, which is just a short distance from the Sacramento History Museum. In the video, the bridge is closing after it opened to allow a large boat to travel up the Sacramento River. The I Street Bridge in Sacramento opened for operation in April 1912. The 900-foot-long double deck steel truss swing bridge was designed under the direction of Southern Pacific Railroad’s consulting engineer, John D. Isaacs, and was furnished by the American Bridge Company. In 1912, the I Street Bridge was known as the Southern Pacific Bridge and cost about a million dollars to complete. This bridge replaced an old wooden bridge nearby and was, at the time it was built, the heaviest swing-span bridge in the world as it weighed over 10 million pounds. There are plans to replace this bridge in the near future. #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #sactiktok #museum #oldsacramento #rain

I don’t understand why it needs to be replaced? They should build more passages over the river south by pocket

I can’t wait for the new I St bridge. This one is too narrow and the pavement is falling apart.

Terrifying back in the day going over the bridge in a 4 door Buick boat car. Praying no one was coming the other way.

there's not a lot of those car on top train on the bottom bridges left, a lot of them have been modified for either only car or only train, seeing a swing bridge version is really cool
