@untoldmysteries: Private Lavena Lynn Johnson (19), was found sexually assaulted, beaten, and shot in her tent on July 19th, 2005. Lavena only served eight weeks in the US Army before her death. Lavena’s death was initially ruled a s*icide by the United States Department of Defense. However, after the evidence and crime scene photos were released her family suspected a cover up. Lavena decided before leaving high school she wanted to join the Army. After graduating, she was deployed to Iraq and stationed in Balad. The autopsy report revealed Lavena had a broken nose, black eye, loose/missing teeth, burns on her genitals, and a gunshot wound to the mouth. The Department of Defense believed Lavena Johnson shot herself with a M-16 Rifle, and was said to be depressed after “noticing a change in her eating habits.” John Johnson and Linda Johnson (parents) have tried to keep their daughter’s case alive in hopes of an investigation being opened. As of today Lavena Johnson’s case is still closed, and the person responsible for her death is still unknown.
