@untoldmysteries: Antonio & Dawn Armstrong (42) were shot in the head while sleeping on July 29th, 2016. At 1:14 a.m. their teenage son AJ Armstrong called 911 after hearing gunshots. AJ stated he heard an intruder come into the home, and was hiding in his closet. Shortly after, AJ woke his sister and eventually police arrived on the scene. He disabled the home alarm and let officers inside to search the home. Later that evening, after further investigation police arrested 16 year old AJ Armstrong for the murder of his parents. During his first trial, text messages revealed AJ’s estranged relationship with his parents. Messages from his mother show her constantly pointing out his bad behavior around the house, in school, and his failing grades. Prosecutors also presented an expert who explained the home alarm was enabled hours before the shooting, and was disabled regularly afterwards. Alluding that the “intruder” most likely came from inside the house. At the end of the trial in 2019, the jury could not reach a decision so a mistrial was declared. A second mistrial for the case was declared at the end of October 2022. Today AJ Armstrong (23) remains free on bail, and his next court appearance is January, 4th 2023.
