@peaceful.toothdoc: Are dental cleanings supposed to hurt??? . It depends. I hope for a painless cleaning for everyone! The thing is the way your dental cleaning goes largely depends on how well you are taking care of things at home! Most people only see us two times per year. What happens in between those two times determines how healthy your mouth is going to be! . Dental cleanings can hurt if someone has not been doing the best job at being consistent with oral hygiene. If there is gunk on your teeth, we have to get it off! Or else you could develop some major issues. . Some people who have excellent oral hygiene still have sensitivity during dental cleanings. This can be due to the thickness of the enamel, gum recession, cavities, or old leaking dental restorations. . In general I would say that the better you take care of your teeth at home, the easier it will be on you when you come to visit us for maintenance 😄 .
