The needle doesn't stay in. It's similar to a regular IV. We use the needle for placement and then it's removed, leaving only a small flexible tube

Not to scare you- but they had to redo my epidural twice because that little tube got kinked when they put it in. I didn’t feel it though! 🙂🤣
