Obito Uchiha was born into the Uchiha Clan as an orphan who dreamed of becoming Hokage so that the people of the Hidden Leaf Village would finally recognize him. Unlike many members of his clan, Obito was not a natural prodigy. He struggled in the academy, was often late because he constantly stopped to help others, and was considered clumsy and weak compared to his peers. Despite this, he possessed an incredibly kind heart and an unshakable determination to protect those around him. He was placed on Team Minato alongside Kakashi Hatake and Rin Nohara under the leadership of Minato Namikaze. Obito deeply cared for Rin and admired Minato, but he constantly clashed with Kakashi, whose strict adherence to rules conflicted with Obito's belief that protecting friends was more important than completing missions. During the Kannabi Bridge mission, Rin was captured by enemy ninja, and while Kakashi initially insisted on following the mission, Obito refused to abandon her, declaring that "those who abandon their friends are worse than trash." His determination awakened his Sharingan, and together he and Kakashi rescued Rin. As they escaped, the cave collapsed, and a massive boulder crushed the entire right side of Obito's body. Knowing he was about to die, Obito asked Rin to transplant his remaining Sharingan into Kakashi to replace Kakashi's destroyed eye, calling it a gift for becoming a Jonin. Believing he had fulfilled his purpose, Obito remained behind while his teammates escaped, and the world believed he had died a hero. Unknown to everyone, however, the legendary Madara Uchiha had orchestrated events so that Obito would survive. White Zetsu recovered his broken body and brought him to Madara's hidden cave, where the missing half of his body was reconstructed using cells from Hashirama Senju. While recovering, Obito desperately wanted to return to his friends, but before he could, Madara manipulated events so that Obito arrived just in time to witness Kakashi driving his Lightning Blade through Rin's chest. Rin had willingly sacrificed herself to prevent the Hidden Mist from using her as the Three-Tails' jinchūriki to destroy the Hidden Leaf, but Obito knew nothing of this. Overwhelmed by grief, and rage, Obito awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan and slaughtered the Hidden Mist ninja in a brutal rampage. In that moment, his dream of becoming Hokage died, and he accepted Madara's belief that the world itself was fundamentally broken. Obito inherited Madara's plan, eventually taking on his identity after Madara's death. Wearing a spiral orange mask and later a white mask, he operated under the name "Madara" while secretly manipulating world events from the shadows. He orchestrated the massacre that released the Nine-Tails on the Hidden Leaf the night Naruto was born, leading to the deaths of Minato and Kushina Uzumaki. His goal was to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi over the entire world, trapping everyone in a dream where pain, war, and loss no longer existed. For years he manipulated nations, started conflicts, and sacrificed countless lives, believing that creating an illusion was the only way to achieve true peace. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Obito declared war on the Five Great Nations, became the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki, and briefly achieved godlike power. However, throughout the war, Naruto continually challenged Obito's beliefs, reminding him of the hopeful boy he once was. Naruto represented the life Obito could have lived if he had never lost faith. As Obito confronted the consequences of his choices, he finally realized that he had betrayed not only the world but also the ideals of his younger self. Rejecting Madara's philosophy, he turned against him and fought alongside Naruto, Kakashi, and the Allied Shinobi Forces. During the final battle against Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, Obito sacrificed himself to protect Kakashi and Naruto, using Kamui one final time to save them from certain death. Obito finally found peace.
