@skinnercustomworks: ⬅️🤷♂️➡️ Using a router table can be intimidating, but understanding feed direction is key to safe use. When you put a router in a table, the bit rotation flips from when it’s handheld, so it spins counterclockwise. You always want your workpiece feeding into the bit opposite it’s rotation. What can be confusing is doing internal edges versus external edges, as explained above. Outside Edge = Right to Left ⬅️ Internal Edge of a Cut Out = Counterclockwise 🔄 #SkinnerCustomWorks #Etsy #tools #Woodworking #Woodshop #woodworker #howto #tips #router #routertable #instruction #feed

Why does it change? Tried using a router once and got kick back. Haven’t used one since….

oh, and btw, that extra hole in the table beside the blade is where a starting pin goes, preventing kickback. lol

Reefman75 :
It's called conventional cutting. Just means travel in the opposite direction of the cut to not grab and jump the workpiece.

If you don’t know this operating a router table, you shouldn’t be operating a router table!

This is correct in general, most solid wood pieces require a few small climb cuts (opposite) to prevent tear out though.

always oppose the direction of rotation of the cutter. never with the direction or it will grab and throw.
