@saymoretherapy: #stitch with @mrspaigejacobs are hot showers and baths self harm? For most people probably not. #therapytiktok #therapytok #askatherapist #hotbathwater #hotbathsandbubbles #hotshowergang #traumatok #queertherapist #neurodivergenttherapist
I’m gently skeptical of “my therapist said” stories. I don’t tell ppl whether to take baths. Maybe they say I’m taking baths and it helps & I say cool

ALSO even if it is selfh4rm, it could be much much safer than alternatives. Not everything is black or white.

I think it’s best to take “my therapist said” advice VERY lightly bc that was said to a specific person about a specific thing. It often is limited

My too but I literally boil not just hot but boil, I’ve added boiling pots of water before like it’s not healthy but the pain feels good so maybe she does that too.

Also usually there is intent behind SH- there are some circumstances where it’s passive but mostly there is some sort of intention

It’s self harm if you’re doing it with a harmful intent.

EXTREMELY hot baths and showers are the only form of SH I’ve consistently done. Been struggling with Sluerslide since I was 16, have yet to receive proper help and I turn 21 in less than a month. My last therapist would giggle and make jokes when I’d open up about my trauma and she recently started ghosting me. Scolding hot baths and showers are what kept me from 🪒 myself at 16. Even now it’s my go to. So as someone who does use it as SH I’m just gonna say that it’s only SH if you use it in a harmful manner. Not everyone has the same intent therefore it’s not SH for everyone

your therapist is not a doctor taking hot baths is really good for you it breaks up the lactic acid in your system and promotes vasodilation and blood flow taking a very hot bath for 30 minutes is like taking a mile long walk

She did specify in her video that it was scalding hot. Hot showers great, magma skin removal bad? 🤔

what if my skin is red, and itchy, and it kinda sorta stings a little, but i have a huge pain tolerance especially when i get used to it, is those hot baths self-harm? I don't ever have that intention to self-harm, its just makes me feel relaxed and relief for my back pain and cramps
