I worked in corporate buying for Costco. There is a HARD 14% markup cap on products. There are just crazy increases from the vendors driving up costs.

As someone who works for a grocer warehouse. Since the pandemic started our profits have gone through the roof. it's ridiculous & they cut staff still

wouldn't doubt Costco had long term contacts with suppliers who took a huge hit during inflation. contact expires, then renews for much higher
