I always understood that an explosion proof motor has no electric spark exposed to the exterior air? Therefore, it doesn’t cause an explosion.

i worked in a factory with class 1 atmosphere environments. when we couldn't use compressed air pumps/motors we used similar.

There are many classes of ATEX rated apparatus and they need to be correctly specified in accordance with the zone they are installed in.
