@sad_papi: Kaya toast 🍞 Popular breakfast in Singapore and Malaysia with a couple variations. The fist time I had kaya toast it was a cheffy interpretation, the bread was grilled, the kaya and softened butter were whipped together, all kinds of garnishes and spectacle for a piece of toast. But it was delicious and I went and started making it at home all the time. Kaya toast is top 5 breakfast toast of all time Ingredients: 5 egg yolks 1 cup coconut milk 5 pandan leaves, you can buy them frozen and keep them in the freezer until you need them. 1/4 cup sugar- palm sugar or coconut sugar is the more traditional pick but it will change the color so keep that in mind. Pinch salt You can also just buy the kaya jam Bread Soft boiled egg Soy sauce Black pepper Salted butter Method: Grab a pot and add some water about 1/4 of the way up and get a mixing bowl that fits snugly on top for a double boiler set up. Place the water on the stove and bring to a gentle simmer and bring the bowl with you. For the kaya jam blend your coconut milk and pandan leaves. Pass it through a strainer if you’re concerned about larger pieces that didn’t blend. Place on the stove and bring to a simmer. In the mixing bowl add the egg yolks and sugar and whisk until incorporated, you’re not trying to get it frothy or work air into it or anything. Slowly begin to stream in the hot coconut milk little by little to temper the egg yolks. Adding the hot milk slowly allows the egg yolk to come to temperature gradually without curdling. Once all the coconut milk is incorporated bring it over to the double boiler and stir with a rubber spatula for 10-15 minutes until thickened. I usually judge if it’s done when I can pull my spatula through to create a little valley and it holds its shape for a few seconds before coming back together. Add a small pinch of salt. Pour into a jar and cool. To assemble: toast your bread, spread on kaya jam l, add a slice of cold salted butter. And serve with a soft boiled egg with soy sauce and black pepper #foodtiktok #tiktokcooks #tiktokfood
