I’ve learned that standing as a Holy Mirror means becoming the villain in stories that were never mine to hold. People arrive here carrying mother and father wounds that have lived in them since childhood. At first, they project onto “Mama Chel” who they believe I should be- endlessly nurturing, endlessly accommodating, endlessly bending to their image of safety. And when my boundaries or my sharp reflections don’t match that fantasy, the wound erupts. The mother wound calls me abusive, cold, unloving. The father wound calls me controlling, oppressive. But the truth is this: I didn’t create those wounds. I only reflected them back. This is the discomfort of shadow work. To sit with me is to sit in a field where self-abandonment is not entertained. I will not collapse my boundaries so you can avoid your reflection. And so, when the ego feels cornered, it does what egos do- it spins a story. It paints me as the villain to protect its image, instead of doing the deep work. I don’t say this with bitterness, but with clarity. I have held this altar for years, and I know what happens when mirrors get sharp: some rise, some break, some throw stones. But I will not betray myself, this land, or the medicine that comes through me to make anyone more comfortable. Projection always feels real in the moment. It feels like betrayal, like abuse, like oppression. But what it truly is- is the wound begging to be seen. And until it is faced inward, it will keep rewriting the story outward, again and again. My work is not to carry those distortions, but to keep pressing firmly in truth. To remind you that freedom comes not from silencing the mirror, but from finally meeting the shadow it reflects. This is why I created The Shadow Work Bible. It is the map of these wounds, these projections, these karmic loops.
