@truecrimetsar: On May 26th, 2005, 18 year old Natalee Holloway arrived in Aruba with 123 other students and seven chaperones. They were there to celebrate their high school graduation. The trip was set to last only four days, and with the legal drinking age in Aruba being 18, Natalee and her friends spent their last night at Carlos 'n Charlie's, a nightclub and restaurant. It was there that Joran van der Sloot, who lived in the nearby town of Noord, joined the group to dance and drink. After the bar closed around 1 am, Natalee was seen leaving in a car with van der Sloot and his two friends, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. On May 30th, Natalee did not show up for her class's departure. Understandably concerned, her friends scoured her hotel room, and they found her clothes and personal items untouched. This raised concern, and a chaperone contacted Natalee's parents to relay the news. That night, Natalee's parents and family friends arrived in Aruba, determined to locate their daughter. The family's questioning eventually led them to Joran, who led them to the Holiday Inn, which ended up being a dead end. From June 1st, 2005, through February 3, 2008, investigators searched for Natalee's body and attempted to follow all leads. They drained a pond across from the Marriott in the hopes of locating Natalee's body. The Aruban prosecutor's office reopened the case on February 1, 2008, after receiving video footage of Van der Sloot, under the influence of marijuana, saying that Holloway died on the morning of her disappearance, and that a friend had disposed of her body. Investigators arrested Joran and the Kalpoe brothers multiple times. They enlisted over 100 volunteers to search the area and still could not find any evidence linking Joran or the Kalpoe brothers to Natalee's disappearance. In January 2012, Van der Sloot was convicted of the May 30, 2010, murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramírez in Lima, Peru. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
