@thejapaneserose: Mochi (もち, 餅). You’ve probably heard it, and maybe even tried it. It’s glutinous rice that can be enjoyed, savoury or sweet, in broths or crunchy from under the grill. Mochi takes many shapes and forms. In Japan, Jiji (Grandpa) makes it every year, just before the New Year and he has been doing so for as long as I can remember. It was almost something I had forgotten about but, seeing Jiji make it really brought back my childhood in Japan and brought me joy. So I wanted to document it!
