I don’t think there was no growth the growth was not explicitly stated. We seen her grow when she apologized to Katara and begin to trust the Gaang.

I think Toph has nice growth in ATLA which is that she learns to rely & trust others. TLOK threw all that away, adding another reason to why I hate it

I think in ATLA she did have empathy and kindness it just wasnt overt, and she had a hard time expressing affection to the ppl she loved but she cared
