@gabbituft: Why do a lot of trans women need hair, makeup, and nails all the time? (Details in bio for podcast) - We don’t. Early on in my transition, however, I felt it necessary to constantly have all these extra displays of femininity because when I looked in the mirror I still had so many masculine features. - The hair, nails, and makeup were crutches to help me cope with the early stages of transitioning…because transitioning takes time. It takes a very long time - years. Not months, not days…years. - We see so many trans women overcompensating but it’s simply because, at least in my personal case, I wanted to be recognized as a female in public. I felt as if these items would help make it easier for others to distinguish what I was/am and help me integrate easier. - Looking back, it never mattered. I was easily clocked everywhere BUT dawning the hair, makeup, and nails, etc. helped me “feel” more feminine while I was waiting for the hormones to shift fat deposits, waiting for my surgeries, and generally waiting for time to slowly change my body. - Full episode of this podcast is S2E2 and is live now.
