Walking into AC chemo (the Red Devil) for the first time is overwhelming...but knowing a few key things ahead of time made a huge difference for me. It didn't make chemo easy, but it made me feel prepared... and that matters. And if you're walking through something heavy right now... I'm truly so sorry. No one deserves the weight of this, and I hope you feel even a little less alone knowing someone out here understands how hard it is. Be gentle with yourself...you're doing the best you can. Here's what I'm genuinely glad I knew going into Red Devil chemo, and why: • Ice or lidocaine on your port before access - made being accessed so much more comfortable and way less stressful. • Take nausea meds before you feel sick — the real power is in prevention. (I set a timer on my phone!) • If you get a Neulasta shot, take Claritin - it helped so much with bone pain. • Ice chips during infusion - reduced mouth sores and that metallic taste. • Hydrate like crazy (before, during, + after) - your body needs all the support it can get. • Your pee will be red - shocking, but completely normal with AC. • Bring cozy clothes, warm socks, a blanket — comfort matters more than you think. • Have someone with you — even just Pack mints or sugar-free, dye-free hard candies - they helped with the saline/heparin taste when they flushed my port. • Plan nothing for days 3-5 after - the crash is real and rest is necessary. (Everyone's timing is different, this was mine) • Gentle movement after your infusion — even a short walk helped me feel less weighed down. • And yes... the chemical smell days after — intense but normal! These little things made a big difference...and I hope they help the next woman walking into her AC treatment feel even 1% more prepared and less alone.
