Lots of comments saying this type of land mine is common, but not one person has been able to name a land mine that works like this 🤷🏼‍♂️

Mines can have a detonation delay or fail from bad manufacturing. This probably caused the myth. My grandfather encountered a delay det at Mortain.

some landmines have a a delay so when a convoy goes over it it will blow them up in the middle of it where there are the most people around it.

i've also seen ones where antitank mines blow someone up, they take more force than a person to detonate them

Yes and no, anti-personnel mine can multiple triggers. Anti-armor generally goes off after pressure release to get past the front axle.

Hey high speed, this s mine absolutely was pressure release employment. You step on the three prongs and stay there keeps the mine in place. It works.

There are switches that act upon release, but they would be more complex and expensive to make.

Most yes, but there are pressure release mines, for example bouncing Betty’s often were/are. Plus a lot of IEDs are pressure release.

“There is a common misperception that a landmine is armed by stepping on it and only triggered by stepping off, providing tension in movies.” Simple

I believe this was a misunderstanding of the jumping mines taking a second to jump up and explode. Appearing to wait for you step off
