This is because smoke can come back down with strong wind so they make it bendi a bit that will stop it to happen

Dog leg chimneys are common in old homes of NE US. Chimney fires in these are a pain to extinguish. This is a bit extreme of an example.

you needto spray the black patch with silver metallic paint.otherwise it will lead through. plastering. plasterboard.render..even with an air gap
