Dispatch had already received a call about this car. The caller said the driver might have been asleep. Officer Schultz decided to pull the car over. He stopped it on Ardmore Avenue. He told dispatch he was making a stop. He then approached the driver, named Keara. As he spoke with Keara, he smelled alcohol. He also smelled burnt cannabis. Keara admitted she had smoked pot earlier. Based on these signs, he asked her to do some tests. These were field sobriety tests. After the tests, he asked her to take a breathalyzer. The test showed her blood alcohol content was 0.15%. Her strange driving, the alcohol smell, and her test results all added up. She also admitted to smoking cannabis. Her difficulty with the sobriety tests and the breathalyzer results led to her arrest. Officer Schultz arrested Keara for driving while impaired. He put her in handcuffs and then in his car. He took her to the Villa Park Police Department. A search of her car found an open bottle of tequila. The car was then towed away. At the police station, Keara was read her rights. She agreed to give breath samples. The breath test showed her BAC was 0.158%. This is almost twice the legal limit. After processing, she was let go to await her court date. She received tickets for several offenses. These included driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also cited for having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or higher.
