Ibrahim Janneh99 :
It is easy to speak in general terms, but my reference to nearly forty years is specifically about the Bumbuna hydroelectric project: since its completion, Sierra Leone has never enjoyed stable nationwide electricity supply, not because of technical incapacity alone, but because real control over the sector remains under external influence, with “Big Brother” interests determining how it operates. The reality is that the moment a government genuinely decides to take full control of Bumbuna, electricity distribution, and by extension national energy sovereignty, it must also be prepared for sanctions and international pressure, because the existing global order prefers Sierra Leone to remain dependent and problematic. While issues such as tribalism exist, they are not the root cause of our failure; the core issue is the lack of control over national wealth and strategic assets. Experience across Africa shows that once a government takes firm control of its minerals and resources, unity follows naturally—people rally behind leadership that delivers results. Countries such as Burkina Faso demonstrate that when resources are controlled in the national interest, citizens stop dividing themselves along tribal lines and instead support the leader because they see tangible change, stability, and dignity in their daily lives.
