![This is how⬇️ This method is one of the most effective ways to spot-correct damage while preserving the surrounding finish. There are dozens of ways to approach wood repair depending on the damage, but here’s the process I used on this piece—and it's a great general workflow recommended by Mohawk Finishing Products for blending color repairs on previously finished surfaces: 1. Fill the damaged area. I used a natural-colored wood epoxy here (because I was out of my tinted options), but you can purchase tinted versions to better match your wood tone and reduce the amount of color correction needed later. Mohawk offers both. 2. Apply Blendal Sticks. Once the filler is cured and sanded flush, I use Mohawk Blendal® Fill-In Sticks to recreate the base tone and grain patterns. These are wax-based and available in a wide range of colors. 3. Seal it in. Before moving to the next color layer, always seal your Blendal Stick work. I use Mohawk’s Sanding Sealer aerosol, which is designed to dry quickly and allow layering without smudging previous work. You can also use Pre-Catalyzed Clear aerosol for more durability between steps. 4. Repeat if needed. For complex grain or deeper tone shifts, you may need to reapply Blendal Stick color, then seal again. 5. Use a Toner. Mohawk’s Tone Finish Toners (I used [insert shade if you'd like]) are transparent tinted lacquers that help unify the repaired area with the surrounding finish. This step really helps the repair disappear. 6. Final seal. Lock it all in with a final coat of Pre-Catalyzed Clear, Finisher’s Choice Clear, or Lacquer for Leather and Vinyl, depending on the piece's use and sheen level.
