i think there’s a lot of advice i’d give myself as a teenager, but the advice on how i dressed would come very gently. i spent all my teenaged years trying to figure out what to wear that would bring me the most attention, and the least. i had big time “i’m not like the other girls” syndrome and thought the only way to get people to pay any attention to me was to dress so wildly that they couldn’t look away. and i could only take that so far since my parents would absolutely not let me become the scene kid i was so desperately trying to smash my available church clothes into. i did steal a couple tutus from my little sister to wear over black cargo skinny jeans that i still have stuffed in a box somewhere. i both wanted people to think i was cool and normal and wanted people to think i was interesting and unusual and i usually just ended up with a weird misunderstanding of the social language that was dressing. my whole wardrobe now as an adult is just all the clothes i thought i would be too weird to wear, or weren’t “flattering” or didn’t bring me enough attention. but in the end, my teenage self, and myself now, we’re just trying to dress the little girl in my soul who wanted to wear dress up clothes every day, who wanted her skirts to spin, who wanted to wear things that were the epitome of soft and dainty and pretty. i make and wear all my clothes for her now so i can feel her swell of delight whenever i remember my job is getting to dress up just for her. #cottagecore #personalstyle #innerchild #historicalfashion #webweaving #teenager
