@crimeatyourfingertips: Joshua Gurto, Ohio, accused of murdering his girlfriend’s 13-month-old daughter in 2017 pleaded guilty in Ashtabula County Court. Gurto formally pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaught3r after reaching a controversial plea agreement with the Ashtabula County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors initially charged Gurto with 2 counts of aggravated murd3r, 3 counts of unclassified murd3r, 1 count of felony first-degree of rap3, 1 count of second-degree felonious assau1t, & one count of misdemeanor DV. Visiting Retired Judge Patricia Cosgrove said this sentence will start after his 28 year conviction on an unrelated burgl*ry & rap3. Gurto killed Sereniti JazzLyn-Sky Blankenship-Sutley on Oct. 7, 2017 in an apartment. According to police and the coroner, the toddler di3d of blunt force trauma. Police said Gurto fled the area after the murder and was arrested on Oct. 27, 2017 at a gas station in Alleghany County, PA. Prosecutor O’Toole dismissed all of those charges in favour of the lesser manslaught3r charge earlier this year. O’Toole has defended her decision to dismiss the more serious charges Gurto was facing, emphasizing a number of obstacles in the case as well as the fact that Gurto was ordered to serve a 28-year prison sentence after pleading guilty in an unrelated rap3 case. Sereniti’s mother, Kelsi Blankenship, also pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaught3r in her daughter’s d3ath last year. She was sentenced to 6 years in prison, but Judge Cosgrove noted there were aggravating factors in Gurto’s case, such as the fact that he fled and attempted to evade law enforcement following Sereniti’s death. Joshua Gurto pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaught3r and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. However, Gurto’s existing 28-year sentence stems from pleading guilty in a separate case to two counts of aggravated burgl*ry & 1 count each of rap3 & felonious assau1t.
