@engineer2educator: Replying to @paigeboleman This is a simple explanation of the Monty Hall problem. #math #maths #mathematics #probability #gambling #montyhall #tutor #teacher #mathteacher #teachersoftiktok #why #mathtok #explained
This is great! I've been meaning to update my Monty Hall video!

So if anyone’s still confused, the reason is because you think that 50% of the time you’ll have the car, and 50% of the time you’ll have the goat. But the issue, is that it’s actually a 33% chance you’ll have the car, as there were 3 choices when you chose :). Afterwards, he reveals another one of the 33% chances as a goat. This means that you still have your original 33% chance you chose, and now only one other chance, making the percentage a 67% chance :).

I did a probability tree to understand it mathematically, and it works out, but i still can’t fully grasp the logic

But do the problem backwards. If I give you two doors, one has a car one doesn’t. The knowledge that there used to be a 3rd wrong door doesn’t affect

I still don't get this! 😂 there are 2 doors left. I just see that now I have a 50/50 chance.😳

I've always hated this problem.
I know the math.
I'd love to see an actual controlled experiment to test if the math matches reality in this case.

Think of it this way - if you switch then the only way you lose is if you picked the right door initially. Which is 1/3. So 2/3 you win when switching

Never really understood the logic of this problem and the 100 door example really helped! thank you😁😁

You made the mistake of assuming I want the car when obviously the goat is the way to go.🙄😂

yyumpp :
a simple, no math explanation is that you are more likely to have picked a goat in round 1 than to have picked the car

This is the first time I’ve actually understood this. Them opening up doors revealing info to you about how likely the one you switch is makes sense

TSW :
that doesn't make much sense tho if u think about. u pick a door n it's a 1/100 chance u chose the car. he gets rid of 98 leaving 1 n the 1 u pick. but I coulda picked car n he's left a goat.

I think the issue is that the prob. of picking the right door and the prob of the car being behind the door is different

I think the easiest way to wrap your head around it is to think is once you pick your door, theres a two thirds chance that the car is behind the other two doors. That probability doesnt change

this presupposes I didn't choose the wrong door the first time. so it doesn't make any sense.

I still don't understand how your chance increases if you change. I was always taught if you second guess your decision you lose.

Sorry, I don’t quite understand. I understand the fact that after the host opens the first door the other door becomes 66.67%, but shouldn’t the 1/2

When the math doesn’t math so you add more math to math the math but the more math just out maths the original math…
