Be sure to follow for more to come only here 👉🏼 REV MED ✅ Carotid Triangle Region located in the neck, bounded by the sternocleidomastoid muscle, the superior belly of the omohyoid muscle, and the anterior border of the trapezius muscle. This triangle is of great clinical importance as it contains important structures such as the common carotid artery, the internal jugular vein, and the vagus nerve. *Carotid sheath is a fibrous layer that surrounds these structures and serves to protect and hold them in place. The common carotid artery is one of the major blood vessels that supplies blood to the head and neck. It splits into the internal and external carotid arteries at the level of the superior border of the thyroid cartilage. *Internal jugular vein is another important structure in the carotid triangle, as it drains blood from the head and neck. It is a large vein that is commonly used for central venous access, particularly in critically ill patients. *Vagus nerve is a cranial nerve that is responsible for various functions including the regulation of the heart rate and the production of digestive secretions. It runs through the carotid sheath and is susceptible to injury during certain surgical procedures in this region. ✅ Carotid Sheath Mnemonic “I See (I.C.) 10 CC's in the IV" I See (I.C.) = Internal Carotid artery 10 = CN 10 (Vagus nerve) CC = Common Carotid artery IV = Internal Jugular Vein #carotidtriangle #carotidsheath #surgery #neck #neckmuscles #triangles #studygram #medico #medschool #usmlestep1 #usmle #nclex #anatomy #anatomyandphysiology
