In a new interview with the Evening Standard, ‘Pose’ star Billy Porter spoke about the ways the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has impacted even well-known performers like himself, revealing that he's facing the difficult decision of selling his home. ‘Yeah! Because we’re on strike. And I don’t know when we’re gonna go back [to work]. The life of an artist, until you make f*ck-you money — which I haven’t made yet — is still cheque-to-cheque,’ he said in the interview, which was published on August 5. ‘I was supposed to be in a new movie, and on a new television show starting in September. None of that is happening.’ ‘So to the person who said ‘we’re going to starve them out until they have to sell their apartments,’ you’ve already starved me out,’ Porter continued, a reference to a quote by an anonymous AMPTP executive in Deadline in July. Explaining the changing landscape of the industry, Porter said, ‘The business has evolved. So the contract has to evolve and change, period.’ He highlighted the lack of transparency from streaming companies regarding viewership figures and urged for updated contracts that address these challenges. Porter also criticized Disney CEO Bob Iger for dismissing the demands of WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikers as unrealistic. ‘I don’t have any words for it, but: f*ck you,” Porter said. ‘That’s not useful, so I’ve kept my mouth shut. I haven’t engaged because I’m so enraged … When I go back I will join the picket lines.’ #billyporter #sagaftra #wgastrike #news
