@iheartshihtzus: Replying to @les__p I completely understand having no choice but to buy from these subprime lenders. I know people *need* cars. That’s a whole other story. This is more about people who’ve been convinced they can afford a certain car payment and have been lead to believe it’s normal or average. These crazy expensive car payments ARE preventing people from building wealth.

I've never owned a new car, always pay cash. What would be my monthly payment goes into savings for the next car. Not embarrassing at all, I'm proud.

Also the people who trade in cars frequently and never go without a car payment. I LOVE driving a paid-off car.

My car was $25k brand new - my trade was paid off so I got to roll that equity into my new loan and financed only $18k. My payments are $375 for 48 mo

No way in hell. I’ll save up $1000 a month and pay cash before I pay $1000/month car payment lol. Just as a principle.

We just bought a new “used” car and paid cash because interest is crazy right now.

I don’t disagree but the truth is the cost of vehicles, new and used, also exploded the past few years. I think rising payments are a reflection.

Because interest rates that’s why. A usual car payment of $220 is now $550 minimum

Drove my Jeep for 11 years, literally until it stopped running. I have a good car now, payment is $275. People need to stop living above their means.

As a former insurance agent, must of these people are under insured as well. their policies won't cover the cost of the loan if it's totaled.

I like a newer safer car with better gas mileage and a warranty so I lease a new one every 3 years. I budget for my payment.

I hate car payments. We have one for 250 a month and I would never pay more than that.

Also people think that their first car has to be a 60,000$ car. Not years of building up to that
