@plantedinthegarden: Look after your tools and they’ll last much longer. I’m learning to take better care of my tools and spend less time fixing them. Also I need a spot to keep all my tools because they’re usually all over the place. The sand oil bucket has made it really easy to maintain my garden tools and keep them all in one spot. A couple of advice I would give is to keep your tools dry after use and when storing. You won’t have to deal with rust. If you use a cutting tool on diseased plants, sterilize it afterwards. #gardentok #DIY #gardening101 #gardentips #tips #fyp

As a florist we spray our shears at the end of the day with mineral oil based leaf shine. Keeps tools clean and rust free.

I did this and it rusted the tips of my tools. Make sure sand is completely dry before adding oil or it's just sitting in moisture.

My dad did this in the 50s. He learned from his dad. They used motor oil because they didn’t know about the health problems with chemicals.

Please don’t do this: you’re polluting a bucket full of sand with oil. If you have done it send the whole mess to the landfill when you’re done.

Mineral oil? And how do you dispose of the sand. Isn’t there some way to use biodegradable oil?
